Although watercolor painting is my preferred medium, I also use pastels in portraiture painting of children. On my trips to Europe I often quickly sketch an outdoor scene and later finish on watercolor paper or pastel canvas.
In my visits to California, I try to capture the the growing grape vines and the mustard fields surrounding them. The many winery vistas and ponderosas make a plein aire artist very happy.. Standing on the rocky Pacific coastline is very thrilling and many photos later a, a painting might appear.
The midwest countryside is often golden with ripened corn stalks and sunny barns. The many farm animals in this area are also fun to paint.
My formal training includes degrees from St. John's University and State University of NY. After teaching for many years, I put more time into my own paintings. My mentors and teachers have included Wendell Mohr, Jim Ochs, Christorpher Schink, Laura Lasworth, Cecil Houel and Marcia Wegman and Gordon Kellenberger.
